Molecular assisted selection and marker assisted backcross breeding for early detection using DNA markers can be applied to support excellent breeding programs based on knowledge of molecular genetics and bioinformatics. In addition, we develop and utilize DNA markers for genetic purity analysis and mutual genetic similarity analysis among varieties of major strains or cultivars, thereby strengthening quality and intellectual property rights for superior varieties.
Plant tissue culture is a technology that produces a whole plant by culturing plant cells or organs in a proper environment. It mainly produces doubled haploid by culturing anthers, micropores, and ovaries of genetically fixed pure lines. Breeders are shortening the system breeding term by using doubled haploid. In addition, we supply various useful genetic resources through homologous or heterologous cell fusion. Recently, we are developing new genetic resources using target mutation technology.
Due to consumers’ increasing interest in health and wellbeing, we carry out several tasks such as analysis of target substances for breeding of highly functional varieties with plenty of physiologically active ingredients, the establishment of a physiological and biochemical genotype analysis system to strengthen quality standards by crop, and the establishment of a disaster-resistance evaluation system to respond to climate changes.
Plant resistance to diseases and pests is one of the most important factors in the development of high-quality seeds with a high production stability. We systematically carry out the identification of pathogen and pathogenicity test by crop in order to develop varieties with resistance to disease and pests. We are making efforts to support farmers with AS services, such as analysis and consultation on outbreak of damage by disease.
